Black, White & Grey

the lovely sunny weather we have been enjoying of late has, once again, turned to grey autumnal rain so its back on with the jumpers. fingers crossed the sun decides to grace us with its presence a few more times before winter sets in.
All H&M!
I booked some time off to go and visit my parents only to realize that my graphics course (which I have been banging on about for the last few months) starts whilst I'm out of the country. Fool! So now I have to change my flights (and pay for the pleasure). Lesson learned: ALWAYS check your diary before you spend bunce on flights!

Peculiar

Have a had a rather busy weekend this week. Several of my friends are going traveling and it was another friends birthday so we had a bit of a bash. The theme for the evening was peculiar and it certainly was, not least because it was pissing it down in July!
Liberal amounts of bunting...
and fairy lights.
Amongst the peculiarities were
A door to Nowhere...
A stained glass window made from cloth...
a flying bike...
and a pizza oven to keep us going in all that rain!
As the boy and I had come pretty much straight from work we weren't well equipped for looking peculiar. As 'luck' would have it almost everyone we know has to wear hard hats and high vis jackets to work...
We spent the remainder of the weekend recuperating, including cooking and eating the old cure all- The Sunday Roast (with all the trimmings of course).
Hope you guys had a good one too!

Logos All Up In My Face

I was thinking about branding the other day whilst looking at people's shoes. I haven't quite figured out what it is I am trying to do here but its the beginning of an idea in a few rough doodles. It is at times like this that a healthy dose of graphics know-how would really come in handy.

This one is a bit creepy...
I can't get this one right. I was going for a swoosh as blusher...
P.S. That Graphic Design know-how is within reach, I got my student I.D. today. I am officially a student again, albeit only in the evenings.

Post It People

I came across John Kenn's work a while ago and thought it was pretty jokes. The concept of drawing on post-it notes is such a simple one. Seeing as we spend so much time at work, and that at work post-its are in bountiful supply, I gave it a bash.

I was churning them out like a mad thing but here are a couple of the better ones:
'Post It People #2' July 2012
'Post It People #3' July 2012
I have been experimenting with drawing people form different angles. Almost all of the faces I draw are either straight on or looking down and slightly to the left. Profiles is something I really struggle with.

Have a lovely Thursday!

Nutology

I've got my drawing mojo back! and have put it to fabulous use doodling, believe it or not, a business plan that Phee and I came up with a couple of weeks ago (after one too many glasses of wine no doubt).

Its called Nutology- its the dating sensation that's sweeping the nation. The idea is simple:
Step 1. Determine which nut type you are.
Step 2. Identify your ideal nut partner.
Step 3. Determine your nut compatibility.
Step 4. Fall in love and have a wonderful life.

Here's a helpful guide to aid you in your search for love.
Nutology: A guide to true Love.
These are just a few examples, as you can see there are other types; the right nut for you is just around the corner...
 More nuts to follow!

Today

Hello Lovelies,

Hope your week is going well. As I mentioned in a previous post I have a new phone equipped with camera. I also downloaded Instagram and have been going mad snapping photos all over the shop and messing around with the various styles it has to offer.

Here's a few photos of my day:

Indulging in my love of salmon.

An Orange Poppy! I have never seen an orange one before... it looks yellow thanks to the instagram.

Cheese Melts, my latest addiction.
Beach Huts on Brighton Beach.
Evidence that people are actually considering swimming!
Evidence that Brighton & Hove County Council are kill joys.
What I'm reading at the mo.
I enrolled on my graphics course yesterday and, after handing over the hefty enrollment fee (which really takes the piss), I thought it was a bout time I started doing some drawing. Its my friends birthday this weekend so I thought I'd draw her a card.
Getting my creative groove on.
The (almost) finished article. Got the acrylic paint involved to spice things up a bit.

Fringe Glyph Code

Phee put me onto Fringe, a great show incidentally, that I was totally unaware of until last week. It turns out its been in the mix since 2008 so now there's a good stock of progs. to watch- don't you love it when that happens?!

In every show there are a number of glyphs and I got to thinking, especially in light of the sort of show it is, that these might be more than casual decoration. A bit of internet surfing confirmed my suspicions. Apparently each glyph relates to a letter, or several letters, that spell out a word (usually connected with the episode in question. I love this sort of things- yes I am a geek.

Series 1
Episode 1.
8 glyphs appear: Butterfly, Leaf, 6 Fingered hand, Apple, Frog, 6 Fingered hand, Apple, Frog.

The hand, Apple and Frog each appear 2ce- possibly they indicate the same letter, presumably at least one of them is a vowel...

Episode 2.
5 glyphs this time: Leaf, Frog, Apple, Flower, Apple.

The leaf, frog and apple all make an appearance again, the apple 2ce. so I'm going to take a chance and say that the apple is a vowel.

I noticed that the yellow dot that accompanies each glyph changes position in relation to the image. I am assuming that the dot denotes which letter is assigned to each letter when an image represents more than one letter. In this case the Apple; in the first instance the dot is on the lower left hand corner of the apple, in the next on the upper right. As its on the lower left in 3 of 4 instances I assume this is the vowel. As E is the most commonly used vowel I hazard a guess that an Apple with a dot on the lower right side is an E...

Right enough of this for now. Ill keep you posted if I come with anything new.

Face Paint

Well I have well and truly fallen off the draw-a-picture-a-day wagon. I haven't done any drawing since the weekend before last weekend! Must do better.
Another hi-top outfit. Jumper dress, American Apparel. Gold Hoops (naturally).
In other news I found an old and mostly used up box of Laura Mercier Secret Camoflage Conceler. I had forgotten how great it is. I don't usually ware a lot of make up and this one perfect. You can use it as a concealer or as a light foundation- Lovely! Sadly mine is pretty much gone now and the bastard costs £23!
Another product that I'd love to get m y hands on is Mac's Casual Colour in 'Weekend Get Away', Phee and popped into Mac last week and tried it out and its pretty gorge. Again it doesn't come cheap at £17.50 a pop, though I suppose its sort of like 2 products in one (blusher and lippy) so technically it's £8.75 a product...

As you can see I am attempting to justify the purchase of these two lovelies, despite my best efforts however there's no getting away from the fact that combined they cost £42.50 and justifying that on my measly income is neigh on impossible. Sad Times.
