A week in the sun

Hello Loves!

I have been away visiting my parents in La Belle France. It was gorgeous and sunny and relaxing and full of pastries- basically everything a holiday should be.

Me Pa is currently in the process of fixing the barn roof (a gigantic undertaking) so it was all hands on deck to get it cleared out and make room for the scaffolding.
Travel in style, as per.
Burning 200 odd years of barn detritus.
Ma and I dressed for some hard, barn roof fixing, graft.

A collectors item apparently...

View from the back door.

Back in Blighty we headed to the pub for the quintessentially British tradition of Sunday roast, wine, and crosswords.

Keep your hands of our crosswords!
Novel wine glass holder.
In other news I have started my Graphics course and been given my first project- more on this to follow. The last week has also seen the birthdays of almost everyone I know! I painted this for my friend Elissa. In celebration of her 25 years on this planet.

The, pretty much, finished article.

Logos All Up In My Face

I was thinking about branding the other day whilst looking at people's shoes. I haven't quite figured out what it is I am trying to do here but its the beginning of an idea in a few rough doodles. It is at times like this that a healthy dose of graphics know-how would really come in handy.

This one is a bit creepy...
I can't get this one right. I was going for a swoosh as blusher...
P.S. That Graphic Design know-how is within reach, I got my student I.D. today. I am officially a student again, albeit only in the evenings.

Post It People

I came across John Kenn's work a while ago and thought it was pretty jokes. The concept of drawing on post-it notes is such a simple one. Seeing as we spend so much time at work, and that at work post-its are in bountiful supply, I gave it a bash.

I was churning them out like a mad thing but here are a couple of the better ones:

'Post It People #3' July 2012
I have been experimenting with drawing people form different angles. Almost all of the faces I draw are either straight on or looking down and slightly to the left. Profiles is something I really struggle with.

Nutology

I've got my drawing mojo back! and have put it to fabulous use doodling, believe it or not, a business plan that Phee and I came up with a couple of weeks ago (after one too many glasses of wine no doubt).

Its called Nutology- its the dating sensation that's sweeping the nation. The idea is simple:
Step 1. Determine which nut type you are.
Step 2. Identify your ideal nut partner.
Step 3. Determine your nut compatibility.
Step 4. Fall in love and have a wonderful life.

Here's a helpful guide to aid you in your search for love.
Nutology: A guide to true Love.
These are just a few examples, as you can see there are other types; the right nut for you is just around the corner...
 More nuts to follow!

Today

Hello Lovelies,

Hope your week is going well. As I mentioned in a previous post I have a new phone equipped with camera. I also downloaded Instagram and have been going mad snapping photos all over the shop and messing around with the various styles it has to offer.

Here's a few photos of my day:

Indulging in my love of salmon.

An Orange Poppy! I have never seen an orange one before... it looks yellow thanks to the instagram.

Cheese Melts, my latest addiction.
Beach Huts on Brighton Beach.
Evidence that people are actually considering swimming!
Evidence that Brighton & Hove County Council are kill joys.
What I'm reading at the mo.
I enrolled on my graphics course yesterday and, after handing over the hefty enrollment fee (which really takes the piss), I thought it was a bout time I started doing some drawing. Its my friends birthday this weekend so I thought I'd draw her a card.
Getting my creative groove on.
The (almost) finished article. Got the acrylic paint involved to spice things up a bit.

Crunch Time

I have the interview for my Graphics course today- little bit nervous.

What to wear?! Originally I thought it was best to go in what I felt most comfortable with, I ran this past a few people at work. Long story short: not a plan. This is mostly due to the fact that what I feel most comfortable in is jeans, Breton and trainers. Dang.

In the end I opted for this:
Jeans, H&M, £9.99. Shirt, Zara, c.£23. Cardi, Mango, £16.99. Ballet Pumps, H&M, gift.
A shirt (it is an interview after all), a cardigan (yes, its the pink one I was waffling on about a couple of posts ago), Jeans (I know I know, but they're black so they're sort of smart...) and ballet pumps (well at least they're not trainers).

I thought I'd spice things up a bit with some jewelery, again I kept things fairly conservative. just 2 rings, and hoops, of course, every girl needs a pair of gold hooped earrings!

Wish me luck! I'll let you know how I get on...

Nos 7 & 8

I will be in London this weekend and probably won't get a chance to do much drawing, so I thought I'd cheat and do a couple now.

'The Hungry Ghosts' June 2012
I don't usually draw scary/dark stuff like this. These (see below) guys are more my style...

'Friendly Hungry Ghosts' June 2012
These were inspired by a Buddhist bloke at work. Hungry ghosts are doomed to be unsatisfied, beings who are driven by need.

Phee and I decided to go for a health giving walk this evening. you can't really see the rain in these photos but believe me when I say it was certainly there!

Note the joy on my face.
Phee & I enjoying the English Summer.
Finally, a plea for help! I have been searching for a pair of black suede Nike Blazers (with a white swoosh) in a UK 4.5. Alas they are no where to be found. Has anyone seen them anywhere? I am hoping they have been less popular outside of the UK...

No. 6

I'm getting quite into using water-colour paints, but have run out of water-colour paper. Like a fool I went ahead and water-coloured all over some little drawings I had started in ink pen. The result- puckered paper. Never mind eh, you live and learn.

No. 5

I wasn't really feeling it this evening. I tried a couple of water-colours but nothing cooking, and ended up back in my comfort zone with a super fine ink pen.

'Bubs' June 2012

I have reached the image download limit on this blog so I'm going to start using PhotoBucket. if anyone can't see an image let me know.
